Worship, Liturgy and Sacrament(Celebration of Christian Mystery)

 

OVERVIEW

Facility in planning appropriate, meaningful, inspiring and challenging worship services with the community one serves; skill in exercising appropriate leadership roles in these services; ease in grounding these services in the needs of the community and in solid liturgical, ecclesial, theological, and social justice principles; and facility at offering support and guidance to others in doing similar planning and implementation.

OBJECTIVES

Sacramental Theology

1. Understanding of the sacramental nature of the Church and the theological significance of the sacraments, both in the lives of believers and in the life of the whole church.

2. Understanding of the meaning of each of the seven sacraments. CCC 1210-1666

3. Ability to enable youth to understand and fully participate in the sacramental celebration of the Church.

4. Ability to prepare young people for the reception of sacraments celebrated during adolescence.

Components of Youth Ministry

Worship (Prayer)

1. Understanding of the history, development, and principles of liturgy, including the liturgical year, liturgical ministries and basic components of liturgical celebrations.

2. Understanding of different forms and styles of personal and communal prayer, and various methods of enabling youth and adults to pray.

3. Understanding of theological and psychological foundations for youth retreats and the principles, processes, models and methods for designing youth retreats.

4. Ability to apply liturgical principles to effectively design and implement youth liturgies and prayer services.

5. Ability to enable youth and adults to pray individually and communally.

6. Ability to design and implement a variety of youth retreat programs.

7. Ability to infuse spiritual formation into all aspects of programming.

8. Ability to advocate for the needs of young people when planning school liturgical celebrations.
