OVERVIEW

Facility in the use of an historical and hermeneutical framework for interpreting scripture and integrating it into one’s life and into the lives of the individuals, families, communities and the world one serves, while empowering others to do this as well.

OBJECTIVES

Hebrew and Christian Scriptures

1. Understanding of the Christian and Hebrew Scriptures, whole and entire, as the inspired Word of God. CCC 101-133

2. Understanding of the Gospels, their stages of formation and their place at the heart of the Scriptures. CCC 124-127

3. Understanding of the major themes of the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and their importance to living the Catholic faith today.

4. Ability to interpret the Scriptures by discovering the human author’s intention, taking into account history, culture, and literary genres.

5. Ability to interpret the Scriptures, guided by the Holy Spirit, within "the living tradition of the whole Church." CCC 109-119

6. Ability to assist youth in interpreting the Scriptures so as to illuminate their experience and promote their growth in faith.
