A Process for Planning Lessons

OVERVIEW

Planning a lesson is a process of breaking down material into a series of steps that connect with

the student's own experience. The end result of the lesson is determined by how well-stated

aims are met through the observable behavior of the participants. This topic takes the

participants through the procedure of lesson planning.

OBJECTIVES

1. To understand how the modern catechetical process can be incorporated into lesson planning.

2. To learn and implement some basic strategies connected with long and short range lesson planning.

3. To develop a lesson based on a plan that includes the following elements: human

experience, message, discovery, and response.

AIMS

1. The participants will be able to show their understanding of the catechetical process by planning a lesson using the four elements.

2. The participants will be able to demonstrate immediate lesson planning techniques by planning a lesson using a given theme.

3. The participants will be able to write expected student behaviors from teaching objectives.

Use a variety of materials and techniques to present the points of content and to engage the participants in the learning activity.

Working with the Catechism
