Responding to Your Students as Persons

OVERVIEW

Religious education is meant to give

direction and meaning at each stage of human development and lead ultimately to patterning

the values of Jesus in one's life. This segment will

point out some common patterns of personality development of which catechists need to be aware.

OBJECTIVES

1. To determine the significance of various personality development patterns for teaching

religion.

2. To introduce some general information about stages of personality development.

3. To show how age level teaching suggestions can be applied through specific lessons or

activities.

AIMS

1. The participants will be able to

recognize some characteristics of each stage of personality development and be familiar with

their implications.

2. The participants will be able to

develop age-appropriate teaching suggestions based on personality characteristics.

3. The participants will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of age-appropriate

lessons based on the material presented in this topic.

Use a variety of materials and techniques to present the points of content and to engage the

participants in the learning activity.
